Picadillo is an interesting alternative for ground chuck preparation. The combination of piquant flavors complements rice and beans or use as a savory filling in Mexican flour or corn tortillas.


In large nonstick saucepan or Dutch oven, brown beef; drain fat. Add onion, jalapeo and garlic; cook 3 minutes. Add tomatoes with chiles, broth, apple, olives, raisins and cinnamon stick.

Bring mixture to boiling; reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, 20 minutes or until slightly thickened.

Remove cinnamon stick before serving. Sprinkle with almonds. Serve over hot cooked rice or in flour tortillas, if desired.
